Frequently Asked Questions
Please see our FAQ's below. If you have any other questions or you haven't found the right answer, please send us an email at info@gracemodels.co.za
- 01Technically speaking, you don't. Casting directors very often publish briefs on social media, especially when they are looking for a specific person, like a real plumber, or a real nurse, etc. If you are looking to try and book a gig here and there yourself, you need to make sure that you are constantly monitoring these announcements and submit your material at a short notice. Make sure that your material is properly formatted and most importantly make sure that the brief is actually sent from a legitimate source. Realistically, you do need an agent. We are registered bona fide model and talent agency and we only deal with legitimate bona fide clients. We provide direct access for all casting directors and legitimate clients to your profile by loading your profile onto all booking platforms and our website. We make sure that the right pictures and videos are submitted for the right brief and the right role and we make sure that you receive the correct information regarding performance, dress code, make up, etc. when requested for a casting. We do all the heavy lifting for you, that way you can rest assured that you are not missing out on an opportunity. There is a lot of work that goes into making one a regularly working talent/model. We have more than 30 years experience in the field and we use it to make the casting process an enjoyable experience for both the talent and the casting directors. We provide expert advice on building your profile, including building your model portfolio, taking your digitals, training you for on camera auditions, updating your profile, doing your admin for you and much more.
- 02No. A legitimate confident agent will not ask you for a joining fee or a monthly subscription fee. We only make money when you make money. We do not charge extra fees for our training courses, digitals taking or admin advice.
- 03We work on a commission structure. The industry standard commission is 20% of the talent's fees, however, this is not a law, commission can be individually negotiated between agent and talent/model. Once you get booked and you complete the assignment, we invoice the clients on behalf of talent and agency. Your fee is a subject to PAYE and agency fee is subject to VAT. Clients are responsible for submitting your PAYE to SARS and in return, they will issue you with your IRP5 at the end of the financial year, so you can submit your tax return. We do not withhold or submit PAYE for you, since we are not your employer.
- 04This is a good and important question. Most of our clients pay us within 60 days (or sooner) of receiving our invoice. In some cases it takes longer, because local clients have to wait to get paid by the international clients before they pay us. We pay you within 24 hours of getting paid by your clients.
- 05You do not necessarily need to sign an agreement with us, however, we need to have a Power of Attorney signed in order to be able to properly represent you. We do offer a representation agreement with maximum validity of three years, however, this is not an a employment contract. The agreement can be signed at joining or at a point when you are comfortable enough to commit. There is usually a three months cooling off period at cancellation of the agreement.

- 08No. You can only be signed with one agent at a time to avoid confusion and contractual issues.
- 09Not necessarily, however, your chances of being accepted will improve dramatically if your submission photos are of good quality. Proper lighting, good face angle, good body posture, minimal make up, clean hair and nails are essential. Make sure that your social media profile has sufficient amount of photos showing good energy, social interactions.
- 10We all want you to start working as soon as possible and thats why we offer so much support and guidance from the start. Please remember, this is not a sprint. This is a marathon. You may book your first audition and then never book a job again. Or you may go for dozen auditions or more before you book a job. The important thing is to believe in yourself, attend the workshops we offer, attend your auditions prepared, on time, dressed accordingly, communicate with your agent how you feel, what went wrong, what went right, be honest and be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day they say and for good reason.
- 11The short answer is YES. As long as you are flexible and available on a short notice. Most of our castings are during office hours and casting notifications may be sent less than 24 hours before the casting is scheduled. Availability is important, reliability is even more important. The vast majority of castings in Cape Town are by request only and if you get requested, we will ask you to confirm attendance within one hour. Once you have confirmed your attendance, the casting director will reserve your spot and decline any other candidate that might be suitable for the same role. You are expected to attend at your reserved time slot and if you do, all is good. You are in the casting directors good books. If you do not attend, however, you become unreliable and casting directors might not request you next time even-though you might be perfectly suitable for the role. Flexibility, availability and reliability are your best friends in this industry
- 12Not a question, but a statement. So many heart aches can be avoided by communicating properly. If you have a query, a concern or just a comment, please, use our WhatsApp number: +27798867313 to communicate with us as your primary gateway. We do not check our Instagram of facebook page 24/7 and we might not be in front of the computer for some reason. WhatsApp is always on and we are on it 24/7. If your query is not urgent and it is after-hours we might take 24 hours to get back to you, however in most cases we respond within one hour and thats a promise! If you are going away, if you would like to alter your appearance, if you are late for a casting or for a shoot, please let us know. Make sure that you have data and your phone battery is charged. Make sure that you are online and available to respond to a casting request within one hour or less if possible. It helps us a whole lot and it makes our partnership an enjoyable and happy experience.
